Get Involved with the HMT

Volunteers are the backbone of any organization, but for us they are so much more. Our volunteers define who we are - they shape our culture, design our programming, and are our family. Being involved with the Historic Masonic Temple is about more than sharing your time or your talent, it is also about pursuing your dreams and sharing your creative passions with the community at large. Below is information on some of the ways you can get involved with us. We invite you to come experience what we have to offer.

Volunteer Opportunities

Event Volunteer: With every performance or event there is always the need for volunteers to work with us and deliver a wonderful experience to guests. Volunteers are regularly needed for set up, event logistics, and clean up. As an event volunteer you are not only working as a part of a team, but you are getting to enjoy the event or show with our guests. Beyond the events, in a building as old as ours there are always opportunities to volunteer for TLC projects.

Programmer: 90% of what we offer in performance, education, and incubation programming has been developed by community members looking for a space to create and share, or was a suggestion of something they felt was a need.  As a programmer you work with us to see your vision come to life and share it with the Great Lakes Bay Region.  We invite anyone with an idea to COME CREATE WITH US!

Committees: You don't have to serve on the board to have an impact.  We are developing 6 committees that are instrumental in moving us forward as an organization.  Each committee meets quarterly unless more meetings are needed.  Our committees are.

  • Building oversight - Focused on the restoration and preservation of our 131-year old building.

  • Governance - Focused on developing and reviewing our policies and procedures which govern our organization.

  • Funds Development - Focused on growing our donor base and overseeing fundraising activities.

  • Community Outreach - Focused on increasing our presence in the community and public awareness.

  • Marketing - Creating Social Media content, posters, and general marketing materials.

  • Programming - Meeting monthly, this committee focuses on the logistics of regular performance, education, and incubation programs.

Board of Directors: We currently have 2 open board positions.  Our board of directors oversee our business and daily operations.  They are responsible for regularly reviewing our mission, goals, and strategic plan while also taking an active role in funds development and community engagement.  The commitment asked of board members is to attend a monthly board meeting, participate in a committee of choice, and attend at least 4 functions during the year.  Because board positions are limited we have a short application process used to fill open seats.
