OPEN AUDITIONS for Vanishing Elephant Players' upcoming production of Monstersongs. We are looking for actors of all ages (18+), races, genders, body types, abilities, and skill levels to audition for this funny yet touching musical by Rob Rokicki ("The Lightning Thief")

Directed by Jessica McFarland Music Direction by Dave Ryan Monstersongs puts audiences in a synthesized world of graphic novels, rock musicals, live performance, and new technology. Following the journey of a child who opens a portal into the psyches of often misunderstood creatures; Monstersongs flips the switch on the monster narrative, inviting audiences to explore the humanity that binds us all. CHARACTERS: MAD SCIENTIST FATHER – Comic Rock Tenor (mix to E5). Freddie Mercury meets Prince; out of control. DUET ROLE MAD SCIENTIST MOTHER – Comic Mezzo Soprano Belter (to C#5). Tina Turner meets Annie Golden; out of control and in over her head. DUET ROLE THE MUMMY – Emo Pop/Punk Tenor (to A4). Billie Joe Armstrong meets Chris Cornell; betrayed and hurting. SOLO ROLE MEDUSA – Mezzo Soprano Rock Belt (to A5). Sia meets Ann Wilson of Heart; afraid to let anyone in. SOLO ROLE THE TROLL – Bari-tenor (to G4). K-Ci of Jodeci meets Randy Newman; homeless, soulful, and dangerous. SOLO ROLE TEENAGE VAMPIRE – Jazzy MezzoAlto (to D5). Amy Winehouse meets Alicia Keys; met a teenage boy who’s just their type – type O negative that is. DUET ROLE TEENAGE ZOMBIE – Comic MezzoAlto (to D5, opt. F5). Meghan Trainor meets Ashanti; met a teenage boy good enough to eat. DUET ROLE IGOR – Comic Pop Tenor (to Bb4). Ben Folds meets Rivers Cuomo; has unrequited love for Dr. Frankenstein. SOLO ROLE THE GHOST – Singer/Songwriter Folky Belt (to E5). Brandi Carlile meets Diana Ross; desperately trying to be seen. SOLO ROLE THE DRAGON – Countertenor or Alto (to Eb5). Either a child or female singer; a shy dreamer. SOLO ROLE THE DOPPELGÄNGER – Folky Tenor (to A4, opt. Db4). Bruce Springsteen meets John Legend; charismatic, seductive and very conflicted. SOLO ROLE THE WITCH – Dramatic Earthy Belt (to D5, opt. F5). Adele meets Dionne Warwick; she’s been wronged and you’re in trouble. SOLO ROLE THE SASQUATCH – Folky Bari-tenor (to G4). Jeff Tweedy meets Darius Rucker; looking for a friend. DUET ROLE THE YETI – Folky Bari-tenor (to G4) Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio meets Tom Waits; looking for a friend. DUET ROLE THE SIREN SISTERS – BACKUP/MOVEMENT ROLES in several songs; possible pre show entertainment Held in the Blue Room of the Historic Masonic Temple (700 N. Madison, Bay City).
